ABBEY
January 20, 2001 - November 7, 2009
We would like to dedicate this page to Abbey. She came
to the farm in March of 2001. She was our first Golden
Retriever  "mama" She was retired 2 years ago. (Which
she was NOT upset about at all.) She loved to "go for a
ride" in the back of the pickup even if it meant  just
1/2 mile down the road and back---in the cab  or in
the back, no matter what the weather was. She also
loved to go camping with us especially all the food
people "dropped" for her. When we hooked the team of
Belgians to the wagon- she was waiting there to get in.
We drove them to the Ft Madison rodeo twice and she
went both times. She sat in the front seat like she
owned it. If she got hot she would lay under the seat in
the shade. She liked to go to the Dutchman's with my
folks. First of all she "got to go for a ride" and second
because my dad would always buy 2 Ice Cream cones
and take one out and hold it for her to eat while
eating his. Needless to say it drew a lot of attention.
She would do all the "doggie tricks"  Her favorite one
was to put a bisquit on her nose, she would throw it in
the air and try to catch it. Not sure how many beers it
took Scott to teach her that. She also liked sticks and
old shoes. 2 special friends who stopped to check on us
had a hand in her training also. Never did decide for
sure whether Laura taught Abbey to fetch or if Abbey
taught Laura. We do know that Laura did as much
fetching as Abbey!!!  Jim did his part too. He taught her
to "fetch"  half a tree that had fallen in the yard. She
was trying her hardest to move that branch.
She may be gone but she definitely isn't and  won't be
forgotten.
